ADHD, short for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, is a developmental problem that begins in childhood.
There are three types of ADHD:
Inattentive ADHD causes lack of focus, organizational difficulties, dislike of doing tasks that require continued concentration, lack of attention to detail, making careless mistakes, not hearing you when you talk to them, frequently losing possessions, and being very forgetful.
Hyperactive/impulsive ADHD symptoms include fidgetiness, including constant tapping or other forms of movement, talking all the time, constantly running about, and often taking risks. Constantly interrupting and taking over what other people maybe another sign.
Adults who have combined ADHD show a mix of inattentive and hyperactive/impulsive behaviors.
There’s no simple test for ADHD. In fact, many children become adults without ever getting a diagnosis. If you’ve had symptoms of ADHD since you started going to school, you could well have undiagnosed ADHD.
Life can be challenging for anyone who has ADHD but doesn’t get the help they need. Relationships are hard to maintain. There may be details missed at work, interrupting others, and being late.
Adults often use a combination of executive coaching and medications. For our visits, we do HIPAA secure zoom meetings for evaluation and treatment of ADHD. Due to the national state of emergency, the one time in person visit has been waived.
